Every year, a lot of plastic enter the oceans primarily from rivers. The plastic afloat across the oceans – heritage plastic – isn’t going by itself. Therefore, resolution ocean plastic pollution needs a mix of stemming the influx and cleanup up what has already accumulated.

The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is developing advanced technologies to rid of the world’s oceans of plastic. The Ocean Cleanup is developing and making cleanup systems to remove what’s already polluting our oceans and to intercept plastic on its way the ocean via rivers.

The main concept behind The Ocean Cleanup is to let the ocean currents do the work. An installation of U-shaped screens channels floating plastic to a central direction. The collected plastic will then be extracted and shipped to shore for use into recycled items.
